A job for a TV news reporter puts Conan on the trail of an assassination plot by the Black Organization - and puts someone close to Conan in the group's sights.
When Kogoro's client's girlfriend is found dead in a car, seemingly having sealed herself inside and suffocated on carbon monoxide, everyone figures it's a suicide, but Conan suspects that the client is hiding something.
While out on a group date with mutual friends, Takagi and Sato stumble upon the ransom kidnapping of a child and work with Conan, Ran and Kogoro to figure out which of the child's cousin's friends did it.
As Ms. Kobayashi and the Detective Boys go to be interviewed, the journalist is found dead and Conan has to hide his deduction skills from Ms. Kobayashi during the investigation.
