After careful consideration, Chief Detective Olga Lenski decided to re-orientate herself professionally and to quit her job. The decision was not an easy one for her, the only one who informed her about it was her department head Karol Pawlak. Her original plan to take the remaining vacation time with her daughter Alma and then quickly and painlessly say goodbye to her colleagues is thwarted by an acute dangerous situation: In Frankfurt (Oder) there is a brutal, fatal attack on an employee of the youth welfare office who ordered Karol Pawlak Olga back from her vacation. Adam Raczek is angry and disappointed when he learns that his partner is quitting her job. When did she plan to tell him that? His trust in his colleague has been shaken, and a scandal breaks out between the two of them. But Adam knows that he cannot do without Olga in this case. The young perpetrator, whose identity and motive are initially unknown, is fleeting. She appears to be extremely violent and dangerous. When the getaway car is found, there is a first clue that leads to the identity of the perpetrator: It is Louisa Bronski, who was released from prison on the morning of the crime after serving a two-year prison term. The only person Lenski and Raczek can interview is their mother, Nicole Bronski, who had no contact with her daughter during her prison sentence. One of the few people who have visited Louisa in prison is a lawyer named Hannwacker, whom Olga Lenski seeks to find out where the fugitive could be. But Olga does not return from the questioning and Adam and his colleagues are seriously worried because she does not respond to their calls either. When the police find the lawyer seriously injured with a gunshot wound in his office, it is clear that Olga Lenski is in danger.

The commissioners look into very different lives and worlds, while Uwe Baude's murderer remains a phantom who must have always crossed the paths of the witnesses. But finally there is a hot lead: The testimony of a certain Rainer, who telephoned directly in front of the house on the night of the crime, leads the investigators to Uwe Baude's neighbors, Olaf and Silke Berger. Olaf, Silke and Rainer contradict each other, they try to cover something up. The investigators get deeper and deeper into the bizarre, lying swamp of drinkers. Chief Detective Adam Raczek is called to Slubice, where the body of civil engineer Daniela Nowak was found while disposing of construction rubble. The investigation leads him to a construction site in Cottbus. The victim worked there for Karl Winkler, who is renovating an entire block of houses as part of a large building project. At first it is unclear where and why the woman died. What is certain is that the young woman's apartment in Frankfurt (Oder) was searched shortly before her death. A first lead leads to a rental car that was seen by neighbors in front of the victim's apartment during the period of the crime. Zvi Spielmann and his daughter Maja Spielmann from Israel admit they had an appointment with the victim, but claim that they did not meet Daniela Nowak. She was allegedly in possession of important documents in connection with a restitution claim that Zvi Spielmann is asserting. The ownership of the house that Zvis father built has not been clarified almost 80 years after the end of the war. Elisabeth Behrend, who grew up in the house, and her son Jakob also had contact with Daniela Nowak and insist that they are the rightful owners. Other documents that emerged during the investigation and were in the possession of Daniela Nowak seem to prove this. Did the victim play off both parties against each other? Adam Raczek also leads this investigation back into his past. In the police headquarters in Cottbus he meets his former colleague Alexandra Luschke and his former head of department Markus Oelßner, who is obviously not interested in supporting Adam's investigation.
