A glitch involving Mr. I. If you kill him and then instantly leave the area and then return, sometimes this will happen. His pupil will hover around you for a bit.
I get 255 coins in Tiny-Huge Island. I use the Piranha Plant glitch to kill Piranha Plant 32 extra times, allowing 64 extra coins. These 64 plus the 191 on the course total 255 coins in all. Enjoy.
I get 255 coins in Snowman's Land. I use the money bag cloning glitch to duplicate A LOT of moneybags. Then I kill enough of them to get 255. I made so many that the game would freeze if I looked at them all for too long. I had many left at the end too. Enjoy.
I get 255 coins in Dire, Dire Docks using the shell glitch and then bringing it to the loading point so that it will transform into either a yellow or red coin. I clone 149 coins and with the 106 naturally in the course, I get 255. Enjoy.
