Juno and the Paycock

During World War II, the Canadian Navy gathered a troupe of diverse performers (dancers, comedians, singers, musicians) from its ranks and sent them off to entertain their shipmates and the revue ultimately played London's Hippodrome. The acceptance of the audience was based more on wartime London's appreciation of the gallantry of Britain's sons and daughters from overseas than it was on the artistic value of the show or the talent of the performers. The film is a mixture of fact and fiction of the adventures of the troupe members, and the ending, only partly filmed in Technicolor, is primarily the revue as seen at the Hippodrome.

Jai Ho Democracy, is an Indian comedy film from the writer of 1983 bollywood cult film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. It is a dark satire on Indian politics and takes a dig at the existing social and political morass India is staring at currently.

A touching comedy introduces us to ordinary soldiers who have taken care of the maintenance of a fake airfield that distracts the enemy's attention. Corporal Tonya is loved by two pilots - Hero of the Soviet Union Kroshkin and French officer Laroshel, who visit the girl between fights. The film, in particular, shows to whom and why she will give her preference.

It is 5 May 1945 and the uprising against the hated German occupiers has broken out in Prague. The Czech guards open the gate of the Pankrác prison to allow the prisoners to escape en masse. Many of them are shot dead by the German guards but young Ruda (Jaromír Hanzlík) manages to run away. He is taken care of by one of the Prague fighters, concierge Kytka. Kytka hides him in the flat of the house's owner where only the young maid Karla (Jana Brejchová) is left, ordering her to take care of Ruda.

Mike and Kinta, two struggling comedians in New York decide to try their luck in Las Vegas, but on their way, a traffic accident places their two spirits back in time to August 1, 1945 into two infirmed Japanese kamikaze pilots. Still possessing their American personalities and sentiments, they infuriate their fellow Japanese pilots who are preparing to sacrifice their lives to protect and defend their country. Although friendships grow and dreams are shared, patriotism and duty reign in spite of Mike's concerted attempts to convince the departing pilots of the futility of their mission and that life is more important than country. Eventually, both Mike and Kinta discover their destiny is the soul of the kamikaze, and they perish in fiery crashes upon the decks of American carriers. Their spirits return to the present day, but one is gone forever while the other learns a sobering and life-changing lesson from his experience.
