During the Irish Civil War in 1922, a family earns a big inheritance. They start leading a rich life, forgetting what the most important values are.

Dublin 1922. Middle age Jack Boyle and his best friend Joxer Daly are openly supportive at rallies of the anti-treaty side concerning the civil war, but are the first to run at the sign of any violence. Jack's young adult son Johnny Boyle suffers from shell shock in having lost the use of his right arm in battle. In addition, Jack feigns one injury after another, these his justifications for being unable to work this job or that job. As such, he sponges off others for beer and whiskey when he has no money of his own taken from the household breadwinner, his wife Juno. Their life has the potential to change when Jack and Juno's young adult daughter, Mary Boyle, who has long earned her own living, discovers from a local lawyer, Charles Bentsen, that Jack is coming into an inheritance, enough for the family to start anew and for Jack not having to work at least in the immediate future. But that anticipation of being on easy street may provide them with a false sense of that new life as real life happens around them.—Huggo

In Dublin, during the Civil Irish War in 1922, the idle "Captain" Boyle is a liar loafer that spends his time drinking at a bar with his friends and runs away from any job. His wife, Mrs. Boyle, a.k.a. "Juno", is a hard worker and lives with her son Johnny Boyle, who lost one arm and destroyed his hip in the Irish War, and her daughter Mary Boyle, who also works to support the home. Their neighbor Jerry Devine has a crush on Mary, but when she meets the lawyer Charles Bentham, they date and engage to each other. Soon Charles informs the family that a distant cousin died and left a fortune to Boyle. They start to spend the money in furniture, curtains, gramophone and drinks before receiving the money. But soon Boyle receives two bad news that will affect his dysfunctional family forever.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
