Pirate captain Piet sees Steven with tears is his eyes and hears Berend scold and threaten the sailor, so Piet assumes the cook has turned abusive and storms in to save his mute seaman. Luckily, the two mates were just happily making vegetable soup, for which Steven has cut the onions.

Pirate captain Piet and the other mates bake a cream cake as surprise for Berend's birthday. They hoped to eat it with him, but the glutton wants the whole cake all alone. Piet and the others accidentally still sort of get their wish when a storm starts and makes stumble each in turn with their face into the cake.

Steven finds a drill in the tool box and can't resist trying it out throughout the ship. When he even drills a hole in the hull, it leaks. Berend finds him and tries to help, but thinks it will be OK if he drills a matching 'drain' hole. Pirate captain Piet finds the pair with fingers in both holes and astutely rushes for bottles- to use the corks.

Pirate captain Piet and the male mates are surprised to find that Stien suffers from a phobia: mice. Berend and Piet can only get her to return to work of they catch he mouse aboard, but it doesn't seem interested in the cheese lure. Steven actually brought a toy mouse.

Steven has painted a portrait of a monkey on wood. He saws out the head and puts his head in the hole. Berend also wants to put his head in the hole, but then gets stuck. Stien frees Berend by smashing the wood into pieces.

Berend and Steven are tired of chores, especially washing the dishes. Steven tries dragging the crockery outboard instead, but everything gets broken. Now the duo dreads the captain's return from shopping ashore. Berend is embarrassed to accept the gift they brought, but the duo is amused and relived when the box is opened.

Pirate captain Piet is tired of things going wrong because the cook keeps forgetting that Steven is mute. Piet wagers a hundred gold pieces when Berend claims he can teach Steven to talk, but all he really gets is ventriloquism.

When Berend tires of Stien rudely calling him and crew-mates weaklings because the have less muscle, banter leads to an arm wrestling competition to show who's the strongest, which goes as badly as could be expected. But Berend resorts to trickery: wearing gloves to hide that he only pretends to put up his arm, in fact a piece of wood screwed to the table, yet another body part spoils his game.

Pirate captain Piet and his crew keep slipping and hurting themselves each time the deck is soaped. Berend promises to solve that with an invention, non-slippery soap, which works. Alas, the secret ingredient is glue, so footwear gets stuck.

Steven just can't sleep, tries numerous places aboard, finally dozes off inside a trunk filled with soft cloth to be washed, but the falling lock shuts him in. Berend finds him in the morning but believes the noise Steven makes to be the work of a poltergeist, and soon convinces captain Piet too, so both hide, shivering.

Pirate captain Piet and his crew mates play cards. Steven is tired of being scolded for playing poorly and seems to want out out, yet is hurt when Berend takes his place and, worse, orders Steven to mind the pots. Since hasty Berend neglected to kill a match, Steven has to deal with a fire in the galley, and none of the players understand his gestures attempting to call them to help.

While Berend reads to Steven about Neptune, king of the sea, and the royal reception he always gets, the cook gets an idea: dressing up as Neptune and his mermaid, Vinnetje ('little fin'). Piet is delighted with the high visitor, but soon sees trough the disguise and sets an edible trap.

Pirate captain Piet orders Berend and Steven to guard the ship while he gets provisions. Bored, the pair decides to play blind man's buff. That proves a perilous game, especially as Berend forget again that mute Steven can't call out. So Berend falls into sea and gets a bad cold.

Pirate captain Piet is suspicious when Berend and Steven proudly announcing a ballet performance. It goes reasonably well, until heavy Berend proves impossible for Steven to lift. Stien already made fun of them and now steps in to take over, but only proves that too much muscle is at least as problematic.

Pirate captain Piet tells Steven to get cleaned up after a painting job. Berend sees green spots on his skin, just the symptom he was reading about, so he assumes his mate has the terrible seaweed influenza. Unwilling Steven is forced to undergo the grueling three-part cure, comprising hanging upside down, an ice water bath and a horror diet.

Steven just can't get a break: fist the captain has him paint the bow and gets covered in green spots, then the crew-mates insist he must take a bath, which he hates. He escapes while the tub is being filled, but is found sleeping in a hammock. Captain Piet decides to covert it in a bather launching device, helped by Berend.

Pirate captain Piet braves the rain to steer the ship. Berend helps Steven painstakingly building an invention, an indoor laundry line with rope transport mechanism, so they don't have to wait for dry weather. Unwittingly, it scoops Berend's soup, so most dry laundry ends up dirty again.

At first it's great fun, but soon they start bumbling up for lack of experience or skill. Captain Berend can't navigate, cook Piet is a culinary failure, Steven can't steer.

Pirate captain Piet leaves the crew-mates aboard while he goes ashore on a secret mission. Bored, Steven and Stien decide to laboriously mend the spare sail. Berend ignores that and gets a cold, so he cuts up the sail to make handkerchiefs. Piet is amused by the irony of what he went to get.

Pirate captain Piet's ship is suddenly covered by snow. While the others shiver inside, Stien mans the wheel, but decides for fun to make a snow woman, then goes warm up in her cabin. The others find it, but assume it's her frozen to death, as it melts when they try to warm 'her' up.

Pirate captain Piet tells the crew-mates a bed time horror story about the sea devil, which Syeven is openly terrified by, so the others make fun of him. Later that night, he takes his revenge by dressing up as a devil, chasing them into Piet's cabin and pretending to heroically defeat the monster all alone.

Piet brings a aboard pirate Schelvis's legate, a treasure trove. The crew-mates have a hard time opening it without a key, only to find it contains a smaller box, again without key, and so on a few times. Finally a tiny box is revealed with a note pinned on, spelling out why the trove contains so little.

Pirate captain Piet goes ashore shopping. Berend is left in charge and tells Steven to do chores, first in the kitchen, then elsewhere in the ship, promising a cake as reward, each time adding another chore. The motivation works, but by the time the cake is finished, Steven is so exhausted he faints, face in the cream.

Steven Stil suffers from toothache, but he nor Piet accepts Berend Brokkenpap's brutal offer to knock it out by fist. Instead they suggest the traditional string between tooth and door. As Steven doesn't rust it, Berend must demonstrate, but Stien accidentally walks in so the door actually slams and pulls Berend's tooth, which luckily turns out unhealthy anyway.

Pirate captain Piet goes ashore shopping with Stien. Berend is left with Steven and finds a pair of boxing gloves, so he insists to test them against his small mate. Then the others return, and challenge his self-proclaimed shop's champion status, which proves surprisingly painful.

Pirate captain Piet is the first crew member to be scared by the fake mouse handled by Berend, not the last or worst. Amused, Steven has a go too. Berend can't stop, but it soon proves a perilous game, especially when Piet comes armed with an ore.

Piet invented a system for mute Steven to communicate with the crew: a trumpet and a numeric code. Steven's immediate enthusiasm lasts, but Piet and the others soon tire of the endless trumpet blows, so they resort to cotton wool until a 'gremlin' strikes.

Captain Piet and Stien are terrified when he finds the first of the three notices sent by the fearsome captain Zwartbaard (Blackbeard) before he raids a ship. The he finds out it's a prank by Berend and Stil, and decides to trick them in turn disguising himself as the scourge of the piracy, bullying them into extra chores.

Berend has baked a cream cake for the crew, but while he calls busy captain Piet and a mate to come eat it, sailor Steven couldn't resist tasting it and ended up devouring the whole cake. Piet and Berend take revenge by painting Steven's face green and pretending it's a terrible disease, which can only be cured by intense labor.

Pirate captain Piet and the mates want pancakes, but cook Berend stubbornly decides to catch and cook fish, even though he has no luck angling. The others decide to bake a stack without him and notice he hasn't caught anything yet. Piet decides to pull a prank on him by fixing pancakes to his rod and claiming that's a common catch in the bay they're moored in.

Unwilling to wait, Steven disguises himself to pose as equally mute Jan and shows no interest in his cousin, digging in on the cake with gluttony.

Pirate captain Piet and the crew-mates look forward to Neptune's annual feast, when a shell hidden in a cake decides which of them gets to play 'king of the sea' aboard for a day. Berend bakes an appetizing cake for the purpose, but decides to leave stirring and mixing in to Steven, who semi-accidentally drops four shells. So each crew member claims to be the year's Neptune.

Berend is making carrot soup, but forbids everyone to eat the raw carrots, even Steven, who has to peel them all. Berend catches Dteven eating one, ignoring it was passed over by a thieving crew-mate, and comes up with a 'fitting punishment': eating the entire carrot supply. Tjis leaves the others hungry, hence as angry as Steven when the truth gets know.

Pirate captain Piet and his mates admire Berend's precious heirloom vase, which he treasures dearly but insists on having handled. Slapping Steven on the back cheerfully makes his mate drop it into pieces, which enrages Berend. Steven hides in a chest, but by the time he's discovered and betrayed, the cook found a leather bag among the pieces.
