Sandy and Robert, middle-class African-American siblings from Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, try to revive their depressed mom who, after the untimely death of her sister, has confined herself to the bathroom of their brownstone and refuses to eat. Robert, a 20-yr-old guitar player has missed band practice. At his wits-end, he welcomes his sister Sandy who enters with bags of food. They try everything they know to encourage mom to eat. But it is when the focus shifts away from her and to sibling rivalry, that she come to and gives them a piece of her mind.
