1399. Two months after the death of Queen Jadwiga. King Jagiello is in mourning. The nobles remind him that he must remarry to stay on the Polish throne.
The nobles find the king in Lithuania and ask him to return to Poland on the condition that he will marry Anna of Cilii, whom Queen Jadwiga had chosen for his wife on her deathbed.
King Jagiello initially refuses the nobles and decides to stay in Lithuania, where he tries to reconcile his brother Duke Svidrigaila with their cousin Vytautas, whom he titled Grand Duke of Lithuania. Then he decides to return to Poland.
1400/1401. Polish envoys arrive in the county of Cilli and ask Count Herman for the hand of his niece Anna for King Jagiello. Anna rebels, but eventually arrives in Krakow. She does not make a good impression on the king.
Jagiello does not want to marry Anna of Cilli, because the girl is nothing like Queen Jadwiga, whom he loved. Anna sneaks into the late queen's chambers and puts her gown on, enraging the king.
Countess Anna of Cilli is locked up in a convent, where she is supposed to learn the language. Jagiello assigns Femka as her new lady-in-waiting. Together they sneak out for a walk. The nobles set the date for the king's wedding.
1401/1402. The Lithuanian duchess, arrives at the wedding. She leaves Saule at the castle to be her spy. Svitrigaila starts a rebellion in Lithuania. Jagiello still does not want to marry Anna, who becomes impatient.
1402. Countess Anne drinks the milk with honey from Saule and loses consciousness. Jagiello is afraid that he will lose her, so he will not keep his word to Queen Jadwiga. After Anne recovers, the royal wedding takes place.
King Jagiello and Anne travel around Greater Poland. Anne wants to tell him about the pregnancy, but Saule advises against it. Anne loses consciousness once again. A mysterious guest arrives in Cracow, who wants to see the countess.
Svitrigaila escapes to Malbork in disguise. Anne is determined to tell the king about her pregnancy, but Saule causes the countess to fall off her horse. A mysterious man argues that his news will shake the kingdom.
Anne decides to keep the miscarriage a secret. Zdravko confesses he is betrothed to Anne, but she declares that she no longer loves him. Jagiello agrees to her coronation. Anne of Cilli becomes queen.
1403. Anne carries out repairs in the chambers of the late Queen Jadwiga and finds her letter, from which she learns that the beginnings of the famous ruler at Wawel were not easy. The girl felt lonely away from her mother and sisters.
The papal legate Pietro de Revenda arrives at Wawel. Saule tricks Queen Anne into insulting him. Jagiello is furious. Anna prays over the grave of Queen Jadwiga and asks her for help.
With the help of the monk Erazm, Queen Anne obtains the legate's pardon. Pietro de Revenda goes with the king to Lithuania, but refuses to support him before the pope.
Queen Anne and Erazm suspect that the legate was bribed by the Teutonic Knights. With the help of Mikolaj Traba and the knights, they discover the truth. Legate changes his mind. Jagiello once again forgives Svitrigaila.
1404. Jagiello and Vytautas hold talks with the Teutonic Knights. Jurga, a young boy who wants to become a knight, comes to Krakow. Queen Anne befriends with Elizabeth Granowska, but soon there is a misunderstanding.
Queen Anne feels offended by Elizabeth Granowska. Jagiello and Vytautas conclude an agreement with the Teutonic Knights thanks to the help of Jurga. The boy became the henchman of the knight Mszczuj.
Saule continues to report to the Teutonic Knights even though she promised Arunas she would end it. Queen Anne, recalling Queen Jadwiga's will, convinces Jan of Teczyn to support the new tax. Jagiello is impressed.
1405. Jurga saves the life of the beggar Lech, for which he gains information about the Teutonic spy. He and Arunas catch Saule giving him information. Zyndram uses this fact to confuse the Teutonic Knights.
The king and queen are desperate for a baby. They use mandrake. Jurga meets Nieradka, a girl who has trouble with her eyes. He offers her help in healing. Her father, Lech, opposes it.
Professor Isner prepares the Queen's horoscope. Kunegunda is spying in Malbork. Thanks to Jurga's help, Nieradka regains her sight. Mszczuj gets her a job at the inn.
Queen Anne invents an outside game and together with Sofia they get lost in the woods. The Teutonic Knights cruelly torture Kunegunda. Zyndram proposes an exchange of spies: Kunegunda for Saule.
The Teutonic Knights want to hang Kunegunda. Turns out she was buried alive. Zyndram saves her and takes her to Cracow. Saule confesses that it was her fault that the queen had a miscarriage.
The king treats the concealment of the miscarriage as Anne's betrayal. Beata from Bozy Dar with her daughters comes to the funeral of Jan from Teczyn. The three sisters Anna, Katarzyna and Elzbieta become the queen's ladies-in-waiting.
1405/1406. Jurga and Mszczuj help Nieradka and her father. Elizabeth Granowska gives advice to the Queen. Anne teaches the new ladies how to live at court. She is visited by Jakub and Mikolaj.
1406. Mikolaj Traba tries to convince the king to forgive the queen, but Jagiello remains stubborn. Anne with the ladies-in-waiting and young men goes on a trip to Niepolomice.
Queen Anne pretends to succumb to Jakub's affection to arouse the jealousy of King Jagiello. Kunegunda helps in the poorhouse for the sick. Mszczuj, Jurga and monk Bdzigost set a trap for the councilor Wierzynek.
Jakub of Kobylany declares his love to Elzbieta of Goraj, but in fact he loves Queen Anne. Jurga supports Nieradka. Saule attacks Femka. Mszczuj explains to the king why he set a trap for Wierzynek.
Wierzynek is sentenced to death. Femka is in a serious condition. The monk Bdzigost is marrying her and Zyndram. Saule learns that Ulrich von Jungingen killed her mother, not King Jagiello, so she tries to commit suicide.
Jakub sneaks into Queen Anne's chamber, but she kicks him out. Jagiello is furious that Zbigniew did not prevent Wierzynek's execution. Femka regains consciousness but miscarries. Johann finds the rope, but Saule has disappeared.
Klemens brings the news that a plague has broken out in Cracow. Queen Anne, Sofia and Andrzej organize help for the starving and sick. Wierzynek's son helps to clear his name. Andrzej decides to lock the queen in a chamber for her safety.
King Jagiello blames Anne for not leaving Cracow when the plague broke out. He doesn't appreciate her help for the city. Arunas prays to atone for Saule's sins. Young Mikolaj Wierzynek clears the name of the family.
1407. Queen Anne wants to force the king to change the steward because Klemens annoys her. Ulrich von Jungingen is waiting for his brother's death to become the head of the Teutonic Order. Svitrigaila plays on two fronts.
Konrad von Jungingen on his deathbed begs his brother Ulrich not to seek war with Poland. Queen Anne and Beata do not agree to Andrzej and Anna's wedding because the man still sighs for Sofia.
In Malbork, after the death of Conrad von Jungingen, the fight for the title of Grand Master of the Teutonic Order begins. Johannes Falkenberg wants to reveal the secret of Mikolaj Traba. The King finds a way to protect his firend.
Andrzej finds Anna from Goraj in the forest and Beata this time agrees to their wedding. Ciolek, Lech and Bdzigost suspect that Falkenberg is spying for the Teutonic Knights. Jagiello finds out that Vytautas broke the truce.
Klemens begins to cooperate with Falkenberg to slander the royal couple. Femka returns to the court and Pietrek starts studying with monk Bdzigost. The Teutonic Knights choose Ulrich von Jungingen as their new Grand Master.
The royal couple goes to Vilnius. Jagiello devotes a lot of time to his family, especially his beloved sister Alexandra, which makes Queen Anne feel lonely. Ulrich wants to conflict Jagiello and Vytautas. Sofia wants to win Andrzej back.
King Jagiello is hunting with Alexandra and the rest of the family. Prince Semko almost accidentally hits Anne of Cilli with an arrow. Femka shields the queen with her body and is injured. Anne resents her husband for not caring about her.
The king wants to be seen as an exemplary Christian and therefore recommends Traba to organize great celebrations in honor of Saint John. Queen Anne, persuaded by the Lithuanian duchess, takes Jagiello to an old pagan grove.
Queen Anne befriends Duchess Alexandra and listens with interest to her stories about Lithuania and Samogitia. The king wants to release Rekutis, whom Vytautas has ordered imprisoned.
Rekutis asks King Jagiello for support for Samogitia. Svidrigaila makes a deal with the Teutonic Knights, and Queen Anne complains about the poor condition of the floor in her chamber. Zyndram proposes a secret mission to Arunas.
Queen Anne orders a general cleanup as guests from Cilli arrive: her uncle Count Herman and cousin Barbara. Sofia wants to win back Andrzej's love, and Anna of Goraj is jealous. The medic plans to accuse herbalist Greta of witchcraft.
Countess Barbara is unhappy that she is soon to marry King Sigismund of Luxembourg. She persuades her cousin to organize games at the castle with the knight Zawisza. Barbara, in Anne's dress, kisses Jakub of Kobylany and Klemens sees them.
Klemens suspects Queen Anne of indecent behavior and discusses it with Canon Traba, who, however, believes in her innocence. The king offers Zawisza to serve the Crown. Greta is sentenced to torture, but is spared by the executioner.
In Anne's chambers, games are held at the request of Barbara and the floor collapses. Klemens believes that this is a punishment. Jagiello becomes suspicious of his wife. Greta is put to the trial of water, but Zyndram rescues her.
The king locks his wife in another wing of the castle and orders men suspected of having relations with her to be arrested and interrogated. Jakub is captured but Mikolaj escapes. Herman and Barbara leave Wawel, accompanied by Zawisza.
Queen Anne is to be tried for infidelity. She writes letters of support to her uncle Herman, and Duchesses Alexandra and Anna. While awaiting the verdict, she faints, and a medic suspects pregnancy.
