Powermatic pm2244 drum sander mini review
Powermatic recently released their new drum sander, the PM2244, and I've been getting a lot of questions about it. A drum sander is a huge investment so it pays to do your research and make sure you get the right unit for your shop.

King size bed

Wed, Mar 02, 2016
As time goes on, I'm getting closer and closer to replacing every piece of furniture in my house with something I built with my own hands. A lofty goal. In this video, I show you how to make a king size bed as it's one of the bigger ticket items on that shrinking list.

Air quality upgrades
I'll be the first to admit that I have a slight problem: I'm a little paranoid about dust. I want as little of the stuff in the shop air as possible so I continually seek out means to achieve that end. While I do wear a respirator while I work, I frequently have to talk on camera shortly after making cuts that put dust directly into the air.

Aquick & dirty 2lb cut of shellac
If you ever research mixing shellac, you were probably overwhelmed with information about precise measurements, including weights and volumes. More fun ensues when you want to learn how to go from one dilution to another. If you aren't familiar with shellac dilutions, here's the quick primer.

Turned box

Sun, May 15, 2016
At first glance, a turned box doesn't look all that complicated. It's essentially two bowls that come together with a mortise and tenon joint. But to pull this "simple" project off you'll need to execute a specific series of steps giving you access to the inside and outside of both the lid and the base, and you'll also need to carefully finesse the joint so that the two pieces come together.

Choosing the right turbine hvlp system
Choosing the right turbine HVLP system can be difficult. If you're looking to get into HVLP spray finishing, the two common routes you can take are either a compressor-driven conversion gun or an all-in-one turbine solution. But with so many brands and so many models within each brand, how do you know which one is right for you?

4#Name?

Fri, Sep 01, 2017
This 4-In-A-Row Game is fun for the whole family and can be made with basic materials and tools. If you're not familiar with this classic game, the goal is to achieve four discs in a row while blocking your competitor from doing the same. The fact that it's oversized makes it that much more fun.

Scrapwood jewelry boxes
Scrapwood. It's something woodworkers accumulate as a natural part of the woodworking process. Even though the pieces are hard to incorporate into larger projects, there's still a lot of value in them and it's a good idea to come up with small projects that can make good use of the stuff.

Powermatic pm-tj tenoning jig
Tenoning jigs haven't changed in decades and most of them look like they came out of the exact same factory. While they are serviceable, there certainly was room for improvement. No one bothered until now. Enter the Powermatic PM-TJ Tenoning Jig. It's lighter, it's more accurate, it's easier to adjust, and it just looks cool.

Castle bookcase
The Castle Bookcase is not only great for storage but also serves as a creative play center for kids of all ages. It features four shelves, a functional drawbridge, battlements, and windows. The entire thing is made from two sheets of plywood and is constructed using glue and screws. For additional strength you can cut dados for the shelves as demonstrated in the video.

Bosch glide vs festool kapex
I don't consider myself a very good reviewer. I have no desire to do a feature by feature and spec for spec rundown commonly found in our favorite woodworking magazines. Instead, all I can offer is one man's opinion and a completely biased personal impression based on my needs and the type of work I do. So here it is.

Moving out of the dream shop
It seems that I'm gaining something of a reputation as a "frequent shop-mover." It's probably well-deserved since I've moved my shop four times already. If you're playing along with the Where's The Wood Whisperer home game, here's the score so far.

Barrister's bookcase
Years and years ago there used to be these things called books. We still own some of these relics and occasionally even open them to look at the words. Our old bookcase just wasn't cutting it anymore and Nicole wanted something that not only looked good, but did a better job at protecting the items within. A Barrister's Bookcase was just the thing we needed.

Moving into the colorado shop
We are finally getting settled in Colorado so I thought it would be nice to do a little shop update. I strategically staggered the move so that the shop tools would arrive about a week after the house boxes arrived. My hope was that I'd have enough time to get the family settled as well as prep the garage space for the deluge of boxes and tools that were headed its way.

Shop tour & sub-panel
Before we get too far with the renovation details, I'd like to take a minute or two to show you the garage space itself. I'm working with about 950 square feet which is pretty respectable.

Shop heating options
One of the biggest changes I have to adapt to after moving to Colorado is the need for heat. In fact, it's been at least 15 years since heat has been anything more than an afterthought. So I had my work cut out for me as I researched shop heating options and weighed that against my budget and what makes sense for my personal situation. So here's a quick rundown of the options I considered.
