During a tournament, friends Gai Kuroki and Shurato Hidaka are transported to an alternative world, Tenkukai, by a goddess. When they wake up, Shurato learns he is now the king of lions and that his former friend Gai turned into his enemy.

An animated adaptation of the manga series "Shurato" by Hiroshi Kawamoto, which was itself a loose adaptation of tales from Hindu mythology and Buddhist mythology. The series is set in a parallel world called "Tenkukai". Shiva, the Goddess of Destruction and her army of Asuras, a group of malevolent gods, are trying to take over this world. They have already managed to petrify the world's legitimate ruler, the goddess known as Lady Vishnu. The 16-year-old martial artist Shurato Hidaka is summoned from Earth to help, as he is the latest reincarnation of a powerful ruler. But there are a few problems in the plans of his allies. First, Shurato is still quite immature, and is both a hothead and an unmotivated slacker. Second, Shurato has been framed as responsible for the demise of Vishnu and is now distrusted by most of this world's heroes. Third, Shurato's best friend Gai Kuroki is under an Asura spell and is used in repeated attempts to assassinate Shurato.—Dimos I
