A poor cobbler has become a drunkard and the laughing stock of the whole neighborhood, besetting his daughter. When she falls in love with a rich young man, her father tries in vain to hide his passion from his family.

Smitten by a cruel and unjust fate, the once-respectable paterfamilias and excellent cobbler, Charalabos Lardis, meanders through the cobblestoned streets of the Athenian district of Plaka, reeking of wine. Perpetually inebriated, the habitual heavy drinker has given up hope and the will to live, and what's even more disheartening, not even his beloved daughter, Anna, can jolt him into action to take his life back. Then, unexpectedly, Anna falls head-over-heels in love with Alec Bakas, the suave son of her affluent employee, and for once in her life, she dares to dream of a better future in the arms of a man who, above all, can effortlessly offer her stability. Now, the grief-stricken father has to tie up some loose ends and embrace change for Anna's sake. However, can he transcend human weakness and his self-destructive addiction?—Nick Riganas
