The action takes place in Western Belarus during the first post-war summer. The war is over, but peace hasn't set in yet on this territory. The natives, who were good neighbors not so long ago, becomes enemies. A cadet of Suvorov Military School, Denis Meshko, comes on a holiday to this village and learns that his uncle Stepan Meshko, the first chairman of the village administration, is murdered. The countrymen suspect Mechislav Khabenok, who has been hiding in the local forest since the war. The cadet tries to trace the murderer and take revenge for his uncle's death.—Kyiv International Film Festival
