After being asked to leave by his sister-in-law, Kadvi, Gora, a clay-potter by profession and an ardent devotee of Bhagwan Shri Kishan (Vithal), leaves the family home with his wife Ganga. They soon give birth to a son, Nandlal, but tragedy visits them after Gora inadvertently stomps his son to death under his feet. Promising never to be intimate with his wife, who desecrated Bhagwan Shri Kishan's image, he, nevertheless agrees to get married to her sister, Jamuna.
