Plachinger and Kirchhoff, the heroes of Franz Novotny's 1980 comedy Exit - Do Not Panic - meet by chance after ten years and spend a night together in which they attempt to be as they were in the old days: anarchistic and orgiastic.

Louisa, in her forties, lost her husband a few years ago. She lives alone in Paris with her cat. One night, she bumps into Charles, her first love she hasn't seen for twenty years. Based in New York he is a famous writer, know for his novel describing his sexual experiences. They make love the night before he flies back to New York. She got pregnant. Six months later he comes back to Paris to settle down with her. But Louisa has to face her first compromise: Charles is allergic to cat hair.
