Takashi and four of his classmates, fourth-grade students, cannot succeed in doing a back pullover around a horizontal bar. Their gym teacher warns them: they have one week to succeed; if they resign now, then, tomorrow, facing life difficulties, they will always run away and become bums. Furthermore, all five must succeed, if one of them cannot do it, then all of them fail. Takashi is really worried and wonders if he won't be always the looser who couldn't succeed in the back pullover bar exercise.

The film follows the misguided, troubled lives of four men in their 40's living in a cold, aloof Rome.

A Chinese saleswoman working in Dubai is forced to navigate increasingly dangerous waters in search for a mysterious truth. A Nigerian security guard searching for a sense of purpose in Dubai has to make a life altering decision when destiny calls. A high school student in Dubai finds himself entangled in a dark world he barely survived in his past. The interconnected lives of these three lost souls collide in the most unexpected ways on one fateful New Year's Eve in the place called the City of Life.

Michael is a stubborn individualist who makes mistakes and draws the consequences. Roberta fights for her dream, with unfair means, but she always remains sympathetic. The banker is mean, but renounces with dignity. Lots of characters that are unsettled and uncertain, mirror of a time when the "total war" was already raging, a time when the theme of the city cursed a new dimension and could no longer only be interpreted as a reactionary critique of civilization. After the end of the war the antisemitic failures were eradicated and the film came to the cinema.
