Summary It's Hogmanay in Glasgow and Eric and Beth are hoping soldier son Angus will be back from Iraq in time. Their other son Ian turns up to the party with boy-friend Tony as do Beth's over-the-top sister Caroline and boastful couple Cathy and Colin, who are moving up in the world. Healthy Norwegians Henning and his pregnant wife Nina are next to arrive and Beth is perturbed by her sister's outrageous flirting with the young husband whilst a group of teenagers gate-crash, looking for booze. Beth feels the evening is falling apart whilst Ian is upset when he thinks his father prefers Angus to him. Caroline's attempt to seduce Henning ends in the destruction of Eric's gazebo whilst Colin hears bad news to puncture his ambitions.
