After having an accident Nassos is brought into a hospital where he lies in coma without regaining his consciousness. All his friends visit him and each of them remembers the most important moments of their friendships.

German occupation in Warsaw. Jan Brzechwa, unhappily in love with the hairdresser's wife, fights for love and survival. Due to his Jewish origin, the poet has to hide on the "Aryan side" of Warsaw. In mortal danger and loneliness, Brzechwa writes "Akademia Pana Kleksa", the most popular children's book in Polish literature. A film in the experimental convention of a documentary fairy tale, in which reality merges with the world of the imagination of a poet in love. A fairy tale illustrated with songs from pre-war movies and Brzechwa's cabaret hits performed by Jan Mlynarski.

A poor girl, Kamal, marries a good-for-nothing Arjun. With the help of local politician Tatya, Kamal becomes Chairperson of the local council. However, Tatya and her husband have sinister intentions, leading to abuse and threats to Kamal.

Hassan, a man raised in a traditional environment, resorts to murder when his wife has an affair.

A team of men works at preventing mountain erosion and landslides. It's a dangerous job and in the first few minutes we learn that a baby is born to the wife of one of the men while on the mountain the life of a young worker is snuffed out when a rope gives out and he fall off the mountain. As if that were not already ominous and sad, we soon learn how hard it is to find even such temporary, dangerous work and security is just out of the question as men of questionable ethical standards are quick to propose a work around economic system of contract work that requires facing not only danger, but probably criminal conduct as well. Lives hang suspended in the void of natural danger and societal shortcomings.
