In the city of Memphis, in a hall of the pharaoh's palace, Abbot Ramfis speaks to the young Radames. The goddess Isis portrayed Radames as commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Army in the battle against the Ethiopians. When Ramfis leaves, Radames goes into thought.
