1. The market day is ending and Stoyan and his wife Pena buy drinks for the gathered peasant, because after ten years of married life a son, Korchan has been born to them. On leaving the pub, they discover an abandoned baby girl sleeping next to their son Korchan in the cart. They decide to bring up the little girl too. Drought has set in. 2. Old Korchan and Lazar, millers and neighbors, set about building a windmill. During one of the breaks, Old Korchan recalls the War World I: how at the front he came across his ox.
