Summary In the year 1916, a small group of Irish patriots led by a young school master decide to take on the forces of the entire British Empire and create a new Irish Republic free of foreign rule. Padraic Pearse, the Headmaster of the St. Enda's School outside Dublin, is brought back into the revolutionary movement after retiring to the peace of his countryside school, which he runs with the help of his brother WIllie. As tensions between Irish Republicans and the local British occupation heat to a fever pitch, Pearse and his brother are drawn back into the fray to fight for their country's freedom. Joining the revolutionaries, including James Connolly, Michael Collins, Sean MacDiermada, Thomas Clarke, and several others, Pearse - a pacifist - must plan the battle that will win Ireland its independence before betrayal within his inner circle can sabotage his plans.
