Summary Edwin Drake, disowned by his wealthy father for lack of self-sufficiency, is unable to get a job and becomes a tramp. But after a prophetic vision, he discovers his better self and his regeneration begins. He obtains a job, quickly progressing to a key position. At the same time, Sarah Holmes is being taught to think positively by her friend, The Professor. Quite by accident, she meets Mrs. Drake, who takes a liking to her and treats her as her own daughter. One day Mrs. Drake is lamenting about her estranged son and shows Sarah a picture of Edwin. Sarah recognizes him as the young man who lives in her boardinghouse.
