Set in 2000s China, two 17-year-old friends dream to become policemen,both failed passing entrance exam for police academy, they embrace a summer break. One day they are told if anyone catches 100 thieves will be reconsidered to go academy

The clerks at a New York hotel near Times Square turn away customers until they approve millionaire John Stonehouse and give him room 420. While attempting suicide, John hears a shot from a nearby room. Finding Gilberte Bonheur bending over the limp body of Aaron Witt, whom, she says, she shot when he tried to assault her, John, wanting to die anyway, offers to take the blame. He escapes after recovering an emerald that Witt used to blackmail Gilberte. After Gilberte, Witt, and the clerks conspire, John helps Gilberte hide Witt, who revives and demands the emerald or its value. John writes a check and leaves taking a theater ticket given to him by Gilbert. John, who contemplated suicide because he accidentally drank a strange poison, now receives an antidote which his chemist created. Cured, he goes to the theater and sees the happenings in the hotel enacted. Backstage, Gilberte explains that the ruse was to prove to a critic that the plot could really happen. They then confess their mutual love.

A man of dubious background, Lucky Loc has worked his way into respectable society as the owner of a company producing high-end ceremonial gifts to be burned as offerings to the dead. When his luck takes a sudden nosedive, he's convinced that it has to do with a torn money note which he slipped to a salesgirl at a flower shop, knowing local businesses don't accept damaged money. Believing that the same bill is his lucky charm, he scrambles to retrieve it from her. Complications arise when she decides to hold it for ransom. Set in Vietnam, Tien Chua is a social satire about a man struggling to survive the increasingly materialistic world with his soul and sanity intact, or at least partially intact.

Mary Archer, a manicurist in a big city, becomes infatuated with Western rancher Devil McCare. He also falls for her, to the dismay of the wealthy society girls who try to tempt him. Mary, won over by Devil's description of life on the range, follows him to Sour Lake, where she becomes the manicurist in the hotel and the idol of Sour Lake, outshining Devil's ward Vera. After some adventures, including a fight between Devil and Parson Brown over Mary, Devil and Mary find happiness together.

The Matthiesens seem to have a deep penchant for failure in the family - as does their rough-and-tumble nature. Accordingly, father Matthiesen welcomes his daughters after many years of radio silence: "You have aged harshly." But that can't scare Esther, Rahel and Thirza. Firstly, they know their old man and secondly, there is no other home for the stranded people. The run-down riding stable today has little in common with the idyll of their childhood, when they dreamily saw an endless prairie in the heathland. Their father has been drinking since their mother left the family, and the girls later gradually left. Besides the schnapps, Matthiesen only has one friend, the indestructible veterinarian Gernot Rantzer. The loner has to get used to his daughters again, especially since each of them has enough problems with them. Esther, fearing for her job, hides her messed up son David from the police. Rahel is currently digesting an entrepreneurial landing with her ambitious fashion label. And "nest hook" Thirza, who has never really found her feet, dreams of a life as a writer. Now, of all times, the Matthiesen daughters' last refuge is in danger of disappearing: If their father can't pay back the loans in a few days, the bank will make short work of it and seize all of their property. But this awakens unexpected powers in the stubborn clan.

Cal discovers an spiritual conflict between good and bad. He finds there's a battleground in a dimension beyond time, where a fight for his thoughts and life is taking place.
