Pirate Mo & the Legend of the Red Ruby

This piece offers a reflection on the time we lose wishing for change. I often spend my time during winters waiting impatiently for spring rather than embracing the unique attributes winter brings. This translates to many other aspects of my life in which I wait for the future rather than appreciate the present.

The 'Chiros' video project is based on interviews with HIV+ women, speaking about how their perception of time and relationship to memory have changed since becoming positive. They describe an urgency related to chronological time, with occasional welcomed interruptions by 'Chiros' a perceived suspension of time during happy moments. Many of the women describe paying very little attention to time before being positive, but are now actively engaged with it, measuring time by the growth and accomplishments of their family and children. The style of the abstract 3D video rendering picks up on instances in the women's dialog (changing life around, life going on freeze frame; overcoming routine patterns), traveling inside the body to capture its strength for more metaphysical clues to survival.
