A story about a man who hopes to see something extraordinary. Based upon the book of Henry James.

A young woman arrives in her school where she must teach for the first time. Her task consists in teaching a class of adults to read and write. All her students are male, ranging from boys to old men, and they are rather rowdy and difficult. All the more as a young hooligan dares write her on a test paper that he loves her. Feeling harassed by the young man, she is defended by other students. But she more or less feels the young bad boy's love is true and when this one is lying on his dying bed, after being stabbed by the other students, she solaces him by kissing him tenderly.

Adam receives a flashlight with special powers: every liar it shines on flies into the air. Production was canceled in 1965 due to the film's political content. Only in 1989-1990 could the director reconstruct the film, replacing missing sounds and images with script inserts.

A series of inexplicable and mind-boggling twists of incidents inside the hacienda take place as the animosity between the two sisters heightens.

Ghazala (Shabana Azmi) has been married to Munirmiya (Srivallabh Vyas) for several years, and has given birth to a daughter, Salma (Rajeshwari Sachdev) Munir is unhappy that Ghazala has been unable to bear him any sons, and is forced to face his abuse, and then is subsequently thrown out of the house, in order to make way for him to marry again; Hasina (Surekha Sigri-Rege) is Ghazala's mom, married at a very young age, to an older man, faces the risk of cancer of the uterus; Educated, Arrogant and god-fearing Afsana (Nandita Das) has three children, and is upset with her spouse, Khurshid (Rajit Kapur), Hasina's son, for undergoing a vasectomy, and leaves him; Najma (Alka Trivedi) is an uneducated housewife, having given birth to seven children, five of whom have died so far due to malnutrition, and is the wife of Khaleej, Hasina's older son; Salma is the daughter of Ghazala, who is expected to marry at an early age, to a much older man, as there is no point in her undergoing further education, mainly due to her dad abandoning her.

Individual memories of a group of teenage Holocaust survivors in Israel creates sharp conflicts among them.
