Right before her sixth birthday, Marit was thrown off the horse she was riding on. She has been looking forward to the birthday for a long time. So when the big day is approaching, things become a bit of a struggle when Marit has a lot to arrange before the birthday party, and her arm is in plaster.

Marit is little sad, because her cute kitten has to move away. She isn't allowed to have all the kittens on the farm herself, even if she wants to. Other animals disappear by themselves, and the little alpaca baby who suddenly died has been one of them. This is a problem for Marit who doesn't like to say goodbye to animals she loves.

It's spring and the air is warm, so all the animals will get out of the barn. They have been inside the whole winter, which is boring for them, so things are gonna be messy when they are released. Marit, on the other hand, certainly thinks the animals also will play.

Having waited for a long time for the donkey baby, Marit and her mother fall asleep in the barn, out with other animals. But soon, Marit is starting to wonder if there really is a baby in Miss Fryd's womb.

One day in every autumn is an awful day, at least for Marit, because some of the animals are to be sent to slaughterhouse to be turned into food. Especially this time, she doesn't want Marit Sara the cow to receive the same fate, and does everything she can in order to get her parents to change their minds.

Marit dreads dinner in an autumn party, because then the family is having turkey and mackerel. Because the turkey lived on the farm before, Marit doesn't want to eat it, and won't have mackerel as well. If she got to decide what she and her family should have for dinner, there wouldn't be any turkey and mackerel.
