His sister Paulien has the hots for Dirk 'Deedee' Dossche, who plans to drip out of school weeks before final exams, so bitch big sister Melissa warns she won't 'spoil' him like their runoff mother used to, and father Juline warns he'll be cut off financially. Frederik 'Freek' Desutter runs the fun pool while manning its bar and convinces Dede he needs to buy his second-hand car to impress potential employers, expecting Dede to help fixing a date with Pauliens' stuck-up school buddy, aristocrat Catharina 'Kittie' van Kalken de Colines.

Mark starts his job as babysitter for a toddler, but thinks the tyke is ill and Louis sneaks off. Dede finds moving out a problem, without income and Paulien not eager to have him on the couch, probably not to ma's taste. He keeps borrowing from people, only to see the cash confiscated by other creditors, including Freek, who judges him not attractive enough for a pool job and now agrees graduating would be better anyhow. Melissa, who treats 'test client' Freek to a free sample manicure and pedicure, and pa Julien want to use mentally ill ma's assets for their business projects, but that requires a declaration of incapacity signed also by Dede, who still dotes her.

As toddler Louis 'got lost', Mark isn't paid for his babysitting and duly makes fun of Dede's miserable performance, regardless of the new clothes he bought, at the ruthless job application Kitty puts him through, Paulien turns on both but Dede walks off cursing all. He turns down helping his pa Julien sell a container full of creepy robots or signing a request to have his mother legally declared incompetent. Hearing Freek considers giving Dede the old lifeguard's job, Kiki Paulien pretends to agree going to a house party with Freek, meanly standing him up so he catches a bad cold. Kiki finds Paulien depressed and secretly tries to giver her spot in the summer dance course away.

He accuses Dede, who finds Paulien got mother to help her advance the 40,000 Belgian francs (pre-Euro) for the second hand car he just bought from Freek, but taking it for a spin, they discover the wreck shines is a useless rust bucket. Kittie declines accompanying col-suffering Freek to a house arty but still gets to use the whole pool alone after hours, but suddenly the lights are killed.

Dede threatens Freek with a baseball bat to undo the car deal by refund or a pool job, to no avail. He's surprised to find Mark in a good mood, composing music, as turns out having his savings refunded- actually by Paulien, who got the cash from Melissa agreeing to accompany Julien to a business dinner. Kiki got a knife to turn on the scary diver, who turns out just Freek repaying her cruel, unhealthy standing-up, and still gets him to consider Dede as new pool lifeguard. Kiki gives the dance lesson a miss, knowing her spot is going to Paulien, who turns on her and Dede assuming infidelity.

Kitti warns Paulien against the dinner deal, but Dede is delighted she wants to do it to help him. Melissa gives Freek another pedicure and advise to take Dede on free trial basis.

Melissa finds Paulien reluctant to wear a black gown dad Julien bought her for the business dinner.

Freek waves Paulien attempting to bribe him with her (unread) savings but suggests an 'arrangement' after the house party and tells lazy, sleepy Dede he has only one day left to prove himself against thrifty Ben, whom Kitty tells he must win so dropout Dede may return to school.

On the last lifeguard test day, when Freek will decide, team Dede's rehearsal is a bad joke, while Kitty cues J-C brilliantly. Dede only gets a last chance to lifeguard thanks to too-fair Ben insisting they should do everything jointly this time. Mark plays his drowning part properly, but Dede only has eyes fro flirtatious J-C working to steal a kiss from old schoolmate Paulien. So it's Ben who jumps after Mark, whose friendship doesn't extend to the kiss of life, but Freek instantly proclaims Ben lifeguard, yet allows Dede to stay as mere cleaner, while Kittie is disappointed Ben still shows no romantic interest after she makes Freek serve them celebratory drinks after Ben's shift.

As Paulien insanely insults 'spoiled rich' Kittie, she tells Freek about Dede's debts and arranges for Freek to reserve much of his salary for her. Without Kitties' coaching, Paulien faces failing exams and counts on Mark to organize a cuing earpiece, but the stuff he borrowed keeps down at first test-run. Mark also finishes preparations to surprise Ben for with a Harley Davidson song, complete with choreographed girls.

Ben is gutted to find his beloved Harley vandalized and nearly beats up Dede, whose bad jokes compromise his declaration of innocence which even Paulien finds hard to believe. Kiti seeks consolation with Mark and Ben, scared the mystery admirer's letters get ever creepier, and believes to be followed by him in black disguise. Mark finishes his Harley act and the cuing equipment, but as Dede uses it babbling from the changing rooms and Ben catches him, it's ruined by water and Paulien's ear heart during the test.

Mark tries to console Ben, who faces costly repairs at his Harley, and shouts at pizza at home. Paulien declines, moping but mother has had enough and insists she must concentrate on exams and making up with Kittie, Dede is a bad influence. Still she grimly declines every attempt from Kittie, who meanwhile feels annoyed by Freek, who keeps going one about the stalker danger, declares his love.'among people of class' and offers to protect her. Melissa is confident to be hired as plastic surgeon's assistant and demands Dede's board, scolding him for allowing Freek to cut his pay to reimburse his debt to Kittie, father Julien just wants cash.

Melissa gets Freek to giver her, not Kitie, the cash held back from Dede's pay, while styling unwilling Paulien for Julien's fancy business dinner, which makes her too nervous to frolic with Dede, invoking exams and tummy ache.

Paulien finds the business dinner is fake, just an excuse to show her the future she may have as trophy escort, even a diamond ring, if only she dumps unsuitable looser Dede, who meanwhile keeps pushing Mark to react on girls showing some interest, less appreciated then Kittie's romantic encouragement.

MC Freek quizzes the Jane candidates, finding most just stupid (one refers for everything to her boyfriend, another to previous miss titles) except arrogant Melissa, who ends second, and Kittie, who wins as he wanted, yet she only has eyes from Ben, who still doesn't tell about his past or love but promises 'later' and 'may grow'. Paulien ran away from Julien's dinner but can't get his ring off, which Dede recognizes as his mother's, but he chooses to believe her and blame only his father.

Mark suffers his first hangover, but also Paulien, who is duly scolded by mother, who even threatens not to take them along to see father in Marseille port, feeling the couple needs time to discuss the stress of living apart, almost single parenting. Freek has no more patience with Dede. Ben earns well repairing the toaster at Melissa's, but still won't have a bar of her schemes to get rich, Dede scolds her a thief for proposing to share the sale of the heirloom ring she had Paulien return. Mark's pizza home dinner wins over mother, but Pauliens' badly started exams bode disaster. Ben firmly cuts Kittie's flirtation as she ignores his insistence on privacy, until she runs off, crying he's 'like the others'.

Ben drops by at Kittie's place, to make up after her curiosity ended rendering him hard-handed for a minute, and soon wins her over again. Mar wears a weird costume to recognize his chat line mate Jonathan, catching on over time that's an alias adopted by the even younger girl Fran, a cheeky mini-bitch, even towards Freek, who demands Paulien 'buys' the next exam questions after such pulled her through maths, only being penniless in romantic kind. Melissa claims rewards for taking on sick mother's role, yet Dede keeps loyal to the latter and already gave the heirloom ring to Paulien.

Paulien returns and makes up with Kittie, who insists an aristocrat like her can't escape family obligations, for life. Melissa prepares a 'healthy', tasteless dinner for her surgeon George to stimulate his generosity.

There plans are made for a party paid by entrance fees, not booze, with a Betty Joy featuring Mark performance. Kittie threatens Freek to tell the police Dede's arrest was based on a misunderstanding 'or else"'.

Reday to get physical, Dede and Paulien confide both still being virgins. The party budget proves within reach as Fran's storytelling earns well, so she agrees to try the pool cafeteria, eager to meet Ben, who is stunned to recognize her.

He also has caught Freek and milks blackmailing him for cash, his job back promoted second pool lifeguard and still forces him to redact the draft last stalker letter to Kittie, whim it rather worries again. The gang promises to help by receiving him in a decadent punk rockers party. Mark is late, as mother returned early from Marseille a mental wreck and insists to spend the day shopping and so on with him.

Despite all the gang's efforts to disgust Robert PJ Smith, the unshakable perfect gentleman even makes friends with Dede, to Paulien's rage, and later calls on Kittie to explain he also only came as his father blackmails him with cutting his Harvard allowance, yet she keeps claiming it's all about standing up to her father. Ben isn't pleased Dede is now his colleagues, and ignoring Freek's managerial instructions, but amused by Fran's interest in history culminating in asking him about swimming lessons. While Paulien rages about father's letter allegedly meaning he desert the family unacceptably, while Mark reads hope and good will into it, and mother just tells her off as it's all to complicated and it takes two to make or break a marriage.

Ben agrees to teach Fran swimming, after grandpa approved her new bathing suit, but his way, patiently and in stages. Freek is completely distracted by an opportunity to treat Betty Joy to ice and applaud her latest song as best-ever. Even Kittie starts realizing handsome Harvard boy Robert really is a nice guy, a lot like her, even inquires how long he stays in the country- even that his father decides, who seems to know about everything, including a fine wine suggestion. Mark cheers mother up by showing passages from father's letter suggesting he still both of them enough. Mark can't resist peeking how Ben wins Fran's confidence, and steals a modest kiss, but she can't stand him 'spoiling the surprise'.

Mark's mood is spoiled by the family troubles, yet attends the fundraiser pajama party, albeit it jealous of Fran being drawn to Ben, who told Kittie to think twice before throwing away her future and luxury life just to spite her domineering father, not volunteering to tie up with her. Ben also gets a warm welcome from grandpa, who abandons the entrance fee check-post to join the dancing. . Melissa ruthlessly pushes George to finance her beauty parlor with the savings account his jealous wife can't access. Paulien can barely prevent Dede from publicly attacking Freek, who craftily mounted the podium to star by presenting the extorted payment for Ben's vandalized motorcycle as a generous check.

As petty revenge for Freek's clever check move, Dede volunteers him for a podium striptease by auctioning his cloths. Before the boxers climax, grandpa cuts the current so Freek can escape in the dark. Ben has mixed feelings about accepting the donations, Freek vents his frustration on him, even suggests seeking another place for the Harley. Mark drops by but leaves angrily, refusing to let Ben explain he's not after the jealous-acting knave's 'non girl friend', swimming pupil Fran. Melissa bitterly scolds George after his check bounces. Robert and Kittie agree to part as friends, without giving their romantic potential a chance, preferring their love interests as he also has one back in New England.

Melissa stuns father by caring only if the alimony is coming through while he moves out without alternative, then has another go at George's generosity. Kittie insist Robert is a past chapter to forget, insisting Paulien must help her win Ben at all cost. Someone is surprised snooping in Ben's things.

More hysterical then ever, Paulien rages should be proposing and over the moon now her pregnancy test was positive, yet declines seeing a gynecologist and ignores his prudence, hoping for a comic artist course scholarship from a reputed publisher. Mark is miserable, feeling dumped and betrayed by best friend Ben, now even declines -like Fran- a trip with him.

Mark is pleasantly surprised when Fran, cued by grandpa, invites him to her 'medium tent', where they reconcile over confidences on aspirations. Ben is angry when even Kittie 'visits his Harley', but they soon get back on loving terms. Mark is delighted with mother's surprise: a mini-disk-player, for demos, like Betty's producer suggested when turning down his first one 'though showing talent', Paulien is imposed a gynecologist appointment and warned not to chase Dede by wedding demand. Although not amused by Betty telling him he must leave Fran to Mark, Ben grumpily makes up with his junior buddy, who assures him not to have found out any secret from his past but keeps asking why it's a secret. Freek nearly looses his patience with lazy blackmailer Dede, but Melissa promises him the trap will snap down now the knave has won the comic artist scholarship competition, telling him to deliver some drawings. Mark and his mother worry about everybody. George asks Paulien, who just dropped out of dancing class to Kittie's horror, what she thinks about Melissa, thanks her for candor and asks discretion. When mother scolds Paulien for missing her gynecology appointment and Dede finally proposes, she declines and admits having faked the pregnancy test. Mark continues the search for Ben's past.

Freek takes great pleasure in tuning the blackmail tables on Dede, showing him the original drawings Melissa handed him, signed Vincent: the knave only won having entered copies of the work left by last will of his late mentor and must leave the pool forever, so he can keep his ill-won grant for a US course. Melissa finally expects George to bring a fat check and leave his wife, but he dumps her as toxic liar snake. Freek barks at Betty Joy's Sicilian manager Carlo to leave her to him as new manager, 'or else', but she later finds the pool smashed and him beaten-up. That's only the first scare at the surprise 'Viennese' party for Ben and Kittie, who just moved in 'fit now' with Mark and Paulien, thrown at grandpa's. Mark isn't just late, but brings detectives who arrest Ben as suspect in the murder of his beloved Helena.
