A recently widowed Los Angeles policeman moves to a small Arizona town with his son, takes a job as sheriff and realizes how strange its residents are.
A young woman (Sarah Silverman) comes to town claiming to be Jake's illegitimate daughter, but Daniel suspects she's conning him. Meanwhile, Atticus distances himself from his dad when the local kids start referring to him as "Opie."
Signs lead back to Area 61 when a swarm of bees mysteriously appears in town. Meanwhile, Atticus helps Jake prepare for his one-man-show about General Colin Powell.
A series of mysterious blackouts sweep through the town. Meanwhile, Jane gets Atticus a job at Area 61, and Jake becomes a celebrity spokesman for people without sweat glands.
Atticus takes a job as an illegal smuggler just as Daniel arrives in L.A. looking for him. Jake faked his own death and accompanies Daniel on the trip, but he blows his cover when he learns he's being honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
