This time it is about Peter Jørgensen, the Scarecrow of the Poor House, who lived on a poor house for a large part of his unhappy life, together with all the other poor people who could not support themselves, and whom the rest of Denmark regarded with equal parts disgust and fear.

This time it's about Christian Christensen, who grew up in the so-called rhubarbland in Nørrebro in Copenhagen at the end of the 19th century. He was one of ten thousand immigrants in the capital who lived in unheard of inhumane conditions and who from a very young age had to help support a rapidly growing family.

This time it is about Marie Christensen, who was one of many maids around the year 1900. The girls were treated like slaves, worked hard most of the day and lived in tiny rooms. In the scant free time, some of the girls got into accidents or resorted to prostitution, and the judgment of the outside world was harsh.

She is a prostitute in Vesterbro. While Denmark becomes a welfare state, she lives the rough life among the criminal scum and city bums of the time. Among all those who do not get a share of the welfare benefits.
