Benno Gütermann and his best friend/neighbor Axel Watzke are simple, happy bus drivers in the otherwise isolated Harz small town Wernigerode, until they are fired when car dealer Dieter Brausewetter's company abolishes the unprofitable line. The livelihoods of Benno (and his wife Tanja and preteen son Tommy) and Axel and his equally-happy family, are suddenly crushed and the locals are cut off from the outer world. Shortly afterward, Benno surprisingly inherits a million Euros from a frugal aunt, so he plans to buy and reopen the bus line to run it with Axel, and Brausewetter promises the old bus for free, so the community celebrates them as heroes, albeit everyone hopes for some of generous Benno's new fortune. Brausewetter, who is in financial trouble but hides it, promises his creditors Benno's million by becoming his new best friend, introducing him to the good life and high society, although Tanja had him promise 'nothing would change', but even Axel ends up bitterly estranged. Benno is tempted to invest his fortune in a joint venture with Brausewetter, who promises the chance of a lifetime in a bankrupt count's classic-car collection, which is simply too good to be true.

In the 1990's Kharkiv three friends search for a fourth one to tell him the news about his late stepfather passing away. As they discover the possible whereabouts of his, they visit the apartment, in which a few residents are listening to an evening broadcast on the radio, which is about British band Depeche Mode...

Aso who has a passion for watching football at the stadium every time his favorite team competes, is put into a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) by his parents. The condition of the pesantren causes Aso to no longer be able to freely channel his hobby of watching it to the stadium. Aso then becomes friends with Dul, Yos, and Sultan, who came from different regions. pesantren then make their friendship exceed the closeness with their own siblings. They then establish friendships as "biological friends"

Instead of finally putting his trust in him, stubborn Anton relies on his untested multitasking skills: When Johanna goes back to work, he wants to manage the construction projects in the "home office" - with little Otto on his arm. When trying to be a model dad and company leader in one, Anton fails across the board. No price is too high for him to placate Johanna: From now on he wants to concentrate completely on her upbringing - as always with complete dedication. Soon Anton and the little one are rushing through a six-day course of early childhood support - from baby fitness to the Chinese bedtime nanny. The inspired super daddy doesn't even notice that friends are making fun of him, that he's dumping his own daughter unnoticed and that his marriage is in danger of falling by the wayside. Of course, that doesn't last long.
