Titus County Sheriff's Office authorities rushed to the residence of Ernie and Samantha after receiving a distressed 911 call, claiming that Samantha had been tied up and gagged by intruders, and that Ernie had been pistol-whipped and abducted. The detectives did not think that the story matched the evidence at the scene, and dug deeper to get to the truth.

When the results of the victim's toxicology report arrive, the entire investigation plunges into a tailspin. Through hard work, the detectives identify William Weston Moon as the suspect in McQuay's murder. In the end, William Moon was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He later agreed to plead guilty and had his charge downgraded to manslaughter. He was sentenced to ten years in prison.
