Ruth begins her journey with the motorist's nightmare that is the M6, but from the air, it reveals some unlikely secrets. From Birmingham, Ruth flies across the sprawling mass of the West Midlands before heading north into more rural areas, ending up at the borders of Cheshire.
Starting in Birmingham, Ruth heads from the busiest part of the region to one of the quietest, as the helicopter heads south-west following the M5 into Worcestershire and Herefordshire, before branching off to the dramatic scenery of the Black Mountains.
Starting from the West Midlands, Ruth flies over Burton and Derby, before making an aerial cross-country trek through Ashbourne to reach the stunning views of England's oldest national park - the Peak District.
Today's journey starts just 30 miles west of London in the Chilterns, and follows the M40 as it passes through the rural splendour of Oxfordshire and Warwickshire. On the way, there's time to admire views of the country's oldest university as well as Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle and the Land Rover test track.
Starting near Rugby, Ruth makes an unlikely cultural trip following Britain's oldest motorway, the M1, taking in Watford Gap, Althorp, Bedford, Milton Keynes and the many fine homes of the Rothschild family.
Ruth continues her journey following the M1, checking out many of the local landmarks ignored by motorists - Bosworth battlefield, Nottingham, Sherwood Forest and the industrial heritage of Matlock.
Ruth follows the M54 as it heads from the West Midlands towards the Welsh borders and gets unique views of Weston Park, Ironbridge and Shrewsbury, before heading on to Llangollen and the castles and hills of the Ceiriog Valley.
Today's flight follows part of the longest road in the country, the A1, starting out high above the Nene Valley near Peterborough before heading north through England's smallest county, Rutland, and on into Leicestershire and the cathedral city of Lincoln.
This is undoubtedly Ruth's most rural journey yet, as she flies north from Hereford following the Welsh border, in an area that has plenty of history, stunning scenery, and more than a few border castles.
Ruth's helicopter tour starts in the very heart of the region - Birmingham, and takes a leisurely course straight through one of England's most desirable territories, the Cotswolds. Fine gardens, lavish homes and historic towns like Chipping Campden complete this aerial account of central England.
