Their skeletal remains were found in remote Taney County in late July 2011. The coroner said each died of gunshot wounds to the head. In the end, their deaths were a murder-for-hire. Rusty's uncle, Robert Campbell, was the mastermind. Campbell hired his brother-in-law, Tony Friend, to carry out the murder for $100K. The hired hitman, Tony Friend, then enlisted the assistance of his wife Wendy Dawn Friend, his son Phillip and his cousin Dusty Hicks. All five perpetrators were convicted, found guilty and sentenced to varying amounts of time in jail.
