Huell visits two farms. Lily Farms is home of the happy chickens, free-range chickens who produce eggs sold at farmers markets under the name Lily's Eggs. Quicksilver Ranch near Solvang is the home of some very sweet miniature horses.
Huell visits two L.A. area soul food restaurants with Aleane Fitz-Carter. First he goes to Dulan's which says it's the "best Southern cooking in L.A." Next is M&M Cafe Mississippi Home Cooking which says they are the "best food in town."
Huell visits with Milford Zornes and Guillermo Bert, two L.A. artists with very different styles. He goes to each artist's studio and get a peek at their work.
Huell remembers two special Southern Californians. St. James Church choir master David Falconer, who helped restore the organ, was sadly killed in a robbery. Ethel "Scrabble Lady" Sherard was a VIDEOLOG subject who recently passed away.
Huell visits the World War II ship the S.S. Lane Victory. A wonderful group of volunteers has restored this ship and Huell gets to go along on a cruise.
Huell visits two Southland "survivors": the Apple Pan, a historic hamburger joint on Pico Boulevard, and the Lang Oak which is the oldest known tree in Los Angeles.
Huell visits Philippe The Original, aka Philippe's, one of LA's oldest restaurants and birthplace of French Dipped Sandwiches. It's a true LA landmark founded in 1908, run by the same family since '27, and at its current site since '51.
Huell gets a ride on LAFD Fireboat No. 2, the Ralph J. Scott, the largest of five fireboats in the fleet. Built in 1925, it is the oldest continuously in-service fireboat in the US and is a national registered historic landmark.
Huell visits the old Governor's Mansion in Sacramento. Now a State Historic Park, it was home to 13 governors from 1903 to 1967. He gets a VIP tour from Kathleen Brown who lived there as a teenager when her father, Pat Brown, was governor.
Huell looks back at "The Happy Wanderers" a popular travelogue that aired on local L.A. TV in the 60s and 70s. He learns about the show and host Slim Barnard from co-host and widow Henrietta, their son Larry, and two of the crew members.
