The Doctor lands in the quiet village of Stockbridge, ready for a peaceful weekend playing cricket in the countryside. No aliens to fight, nobody to save - all he wants is some peace. But the Doctor never gets what he wants.

Nancy Foster has stepped aboard the TARDIS and fears that nothing may be the same again. But before she can negotiate a return journey home, the Doctor discovers Amelia Earhart's plane as it is set to disappear. With the TARDIS trapped in a world that is not what it seems, the Doctor and Nancy fall in with Amelia and her navigator Fred Noonan. Together, they must survive and defeat a nightmarish monster. All the while, Nancy suspects the Doctor is keeping a secret from her.

On the festival planetoid Glastonbury VI, the galaxy's most popular rockers, the Cosmic Kings, are getting ready for the performance of their lives... or, should that be, the end of their lives? Because the drummer's been murdered - with his own drumstick. Hastily enlisted as the replacement drummer, the Doctor leaves Nancy to solve the crime. But who could the killer be? The greedy manager, desperate for publicity? The long-standing rivals, rock band Earth Music? What about the festival's organizer, struggling to cope with the band's outrageous rider? Or the suspicious journalist, with her knack for being in just the right place at just the right time? Or even the bitter band-mates? Time's running out; unless Nancy can act fast, there may be treble ahead.

Death stalks the trenches. Nancy has been captured by Nazis. And the Doctor can't fathom how he ended up in No Man's Land or who he is. The TARDIS has returned Nancy to her own time at last, but not in the way the Doctor had intended to. The final battle approaches. The hour when all hope is lost is upon us. And as a creature from Time Lord myth rears it's head, it's clear that this will not end well.
