Jaime, Kaput!

Wed, Dec 31, 1969
1106/5000 Jaime was born in Angelina, a small town founded by German immigrants, located a few hours from Florianopolis, capital of Santa Catarina in Brazil. Remember that although they maintained German traditions in their family, Portuguese was always spoken at home, as their father raised them in the manner of Brazilian laws. One of his curiosities was the origin of the words. The contact with people from remote cities and with strange names made him think why the language of his grandparents suddenly became forbidden in his municipality and the neighboring region. When he was between five and seven years old he remembers that the government forbade German to be spoken and whoever did not comply with the law was taken prisoner. That happened to some priests who continued to give masses in German. Little by little he became more interested in the subject, until he discovered that the country in which he was born was not the same as his grandparents or his friends 'grandparents, but that his grandparents' country was at war with the country that he saw him born and therefore, the language he found interesting but strong, could not be spoken.
