For the past year, Carol and Rose have given up working "The Lane" and Rose gets a job as a community liaison officer, working with the police to clean up the darker side of life on the streets.
Paula has disappeared after the murder of D.C. Mace, and Rose is called upon to assist the police. In the meantime, Rose finds Paula and takes her to shelter at Carol's.
When Carol's mother falls seriously ill, Carol is forced to provide a home for her white half-sister Lisa, but the sibling rivalry she has always felt proves too much to handle. Meanwhile, Rose tangles with a dangerous gang of Leeds pimps who are moving onto "The Lane" and foolishly take on gang leader Raymond after a black girl is found brutally murdered.
Lisa is lured back into prostitution by her former pimp Charlie, with a plan to get money from her rich sister Carol. Meanwhile, Raymond seeks revenge for his betrayal to the police, and Rose realizes that Marva's killer is still out there.
