Susan wants to be the magazine's new investigative reporter, but Jack is more interested in hiring her abrasive high school rival, Maddy. Vicki is unnerved that the new food-delivery guy, whom she briefly dated, doesn't recognize her.
Jack's ex-wife, Margo shows up and things are still tense between them. She runs into Susan who asks her to go have a drink with her. It's while they're drinking that Susan mentions the time Jack spent the night at her place and left his pants behind. Margo then takes Jack to court on the grounds that he committed infidelity while they were married which means she could take half of the magazine. At the deposition Margo's lawyer asks Susan if she has feelings for Jack and Jack's lawyer objects but Jack wants her to answer the question.
Susan is attracted to an aspiring actor who lacks talent. Maddy flirts with Jack while his divorce becomes final.Tony Bennett makes a special appearance.
Susan makes friends with an elderly man (Tim Conway) and brings him together with his long-lost brother (Harvey Korman) and sister-in-law (Rose Marie).
When Nana covers for Susan by writing a column for her, Susan's readers think that it is the best thing that she's ever written. Vicki gets religious when she meets an attractive rabbi.
Jack volunteers the staff to sing Christmas carols at a local hospital. Susan gives Jack a private singing lesson. When he tries to kiss her, she resists, and Jack quits angrily. Susan later realizes that she wants to date Jack but finds him on the roof of the office building kissing Maddy.
When Jack is unable to work he puts Susan in charge. And it doesn't Make Maddy happy that she has to answer to her. And when her father, a noted journalist comes for a visit it only adds fuel to the fire. Because he was always on an assignment and didn't spend much time with Maddy when she was young.
Susan goes to interview a politician whom she reveres. But when she gets there he reveals a different side. But when she tells of what he did, he turns around and claim that Susan tried come on to him but he rejected her.
