From Hull to Hollywood to Hawaii
A profile of thrice-married British actress Dorothy Mackaill (1903-90), born in Hull, Yorkshire, who became a major Hollywood star in the 1920s and '30s. The piece contains footage from a 1930 Pathe newsreel entitled 'The most kissable girl in Hollywood'. Film historian Kevin Brownlow and the actress's cousin William Mackaill recall her impact and there are clips from Love Affair (co-starring Humphrey Bogart), Bulldog Drummond at Bay (co-starring John Lodge) and Smile, Brother, Smile.
