The spectacular crash seen in the opening titles of the TV series "The Six Million Dollar Man" was the real-life crash of an M2 lifting body in 1967. The test pilot was Bruce Peterson, "the real bionic man." This documentary film opens with Peterson's story, told by himself, and then reviews the state of the art in human body replacement -- arms, legs, hearts, livers and kidneys. Much of it was filmed at the medical school of the University of Utah, a world leader in research into human spare parts.
