Globe Trekker

Ultimate UK

Wed, Dec 31, 1969
Globe Trekker travellers Ian Wright, Megan McCormick, Jonathan Atherton and Justine Shapiro travel the length and breadth of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to experience the best of the countries' heritage, history, nature, festivals, food and drink and eccentric traditions! Our team start off by looking at the monarchy in different periods of England's history; Ian visits Windsor castle whilst Jonathan learns about the bloody and gory past of the Tower of London. Although the United Kingdom doesn't hold the best reputation for food, our travellers tuck in to all manner of delightful and doubtful food; from the cooked English breakfast to deep fried chocolate bars, jellied eels and Cornish pasties. Strange sports are sampled, from dog racing in North London to grand horse racing at Ascot, bizarre road bowling in Northern Ireland and the Highland Games in Scotland. Our travellers complete their journeys by taking in some of the UK's most stunning vistas, from atop the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland's Giants Causeway and Wales' Snowdonia.

Best American Water Treks 1
Globe Trekker Best Water Treks explores 4 of the wettest rides in the USA. Christina Lamonica couldn't be further away from the heat and dust of Oklahoma - she's in Hawaii, getting a taste of paradise with some rough waters and high adventure thrown in. Christina kayaks along the rugged Na Pali coast, made famous in South Pacific, and now, heaven for kayakers in search of rugged, remote beauty. New Yorker Bradley Cooper finds himself in the most famous Blue-water kayaking spot in the world - Alaska's Prince William Sound. Here he discovers the stark beauty of the environment here - and its resilience after the world's most devastating oil spill ten years ago. Bradley and his guide Kenny then get a close up view of one of Alaska's true wonders - the majestic (and loud!) Columbia Glacier. Zay Harding canoes down the Rio Grande, through the Big Bend of Texas. This is border country - hot desert and spectacular canyon landscapes. Zay learns from his vivacious guide that this area is a wonder of millions of years of evolution - a ten day canoe journey that takes him to the heart of how our earth began. Bradley Cooper has his adventure set out for him by the army on this trip - it's the time of year in West Virginia for kayaking the premiere river in the United States - the Gauley. Every October, the Gauley's dam is released, making it a huge challenge for even the best kayakers. It's known as the Gauley Season and it draws river rafters and kayakers from all over the world for the thrill of experiencing Class IV and V rapids.
