On a windy day the Mayor goes to inspect the park and finds a broken bench. Chippy Minton is sent for. Miss Lovelace is walking her dogs in the park and the Mayor's hat gets stuck in a tree. The Fire Brigade come to retrieve it.

The flower seller, Mrs Cobbit, isn't at her usual pitch in the square. Chippy Minton finds that a branch has smashed through her roof damaging her flowers and now Mr Antonio has set up his ice cream van on her spot in the square.

Miss Lovelace asks Chippy Minton to come around and fix her door which is sticking. While he and Nibbs are working on the door her dogs escape into the street causing a truck to swerve and knock the crown off the Queen's statue.

The Mayor informs Mr Platt the clockmaker that the Town Hall clock is going to be painted. After Mr Harkin finishes the job Mr Troop goes into Mr Platt's shop to tell him that the clock has stopped. What could be stopping it?

Chaos ensues when one of Miss Lovelace's dogs falls down a manhole where an engineer is trying to fix the Mayor's phone line. The dog disconnects all the wires and the engineer mixes them up causing everyone to get crossed lines.

The Mayor launches a 'Tidy Up Trumpton' campaign prompting Mrs Minton to clean out Chippy's workshop. She gives an old rocking horse to the rag and bone man but doesn't know that Chippy has been saving all their money in it.

Mr Robinson the window cleaner arrives in the square. While he is cleaning Miss Lovelace's windows she asks him to have a look at her chimney. But while he's up there Mr Troop removes his ladder leaving him stuck on the roof.
