It's 1743 and slave trader Henry Lascelles, one of the richest men of the 18th century, is about to be investigated for tax fraud by government inspector Robert Dinwiddie. A life and death struggle ensues between these equally ambitious and obsessively single minded men that takes us from the sugar plantations of Barbados to the heart of government in London.
