Metropolitan investigator Maksim Pokrovsky is sent to Changadan, a small northern town where Dina Kobrina, the daughter of a local oligarch, was recently killed. The circumstances of the murder indicate that it was a shamanistic sacrifice.
Pokrovsky is warned that there will be more deaths in Changadan if he does not return to Moscow. Nevertheless, the investigator continues the investigation and gets acquainted with the main people of Changadan. Each of them in one way or another can be involved in the murder of Dina.
Pokrovsky ends up in Vera's apartment and finds a candid video there, which depicts Dina Kobrina. Maybe it was this video that became the reason for the girl's murder?
Pokrovsky does not believe in the version that Dina was killed by the school teacher Grushin. Meanwhile, Pokrovsky's condition worsens and he begins to hallucinate.
Pokrovsky manages to find out where Dina Kobrina was the night before the murder. Yonko tries to explain to Kobrin that mystical forces are to blame for everything that happens in Changadan. Kobrin does not take this seriously, but soon he will have to make sure that Yonko was right.
Pokrovsky is getting closer to unraveling what happened to Dina, however, in order to get a final answer, he will have to face the spirit of the lake face to face.
