In Norway, Karl is reunited with his wife's sister and old flame, Mette, straining his relationship with Astrid, who's still struggling with her suspicions regarding her mother's death. Karl becomes increasingly disturbed by strange occurrences on his farm. He and a troubled neighbor girl named Eva investigate and he becomes convinced that someone... or something... is threatening their safety. In Pennsylvania, in an attempt to stop The Withering, the Foundation's leadership forces Rachel into the uncomfortable position to recruit Toby, who still blames her and the Foundation for his sister's death. Dogged by visions of his dead sister and his failed attempt to hold the Foundation accountable, Toby attempts to flee town, but finds himself unable to escape.
