The life of police officer Maxim Maksimov suddenly begins to crumble: his wife leaves him, then he loses his job and tries to find solace in a bottle. One day Maksimov receives a strange message from his former father-in-law and mentor Zharov. The message contains only one word: "Rose". When Maksimov comes to Zharov's home, he finds the owner dead and his dog wounded. Maxim takes the dog to his place, nurses it and calls the pet simply Dog. During Zharov's funeral, the dog runs after the car of one of those who came to the funeral ceremony. Maksimov assumes that the person involved in the murder of Zharov is sitting in the car. The question remains: who and why killed the retired detective, who had retired long ago? Maksimov is sure that with the help of the Dog he will be able to solve this riddle.
