In episode 2, True Self Maya has a dream about being a mermaid. She meets her cousin from Hawaii and finds out her secret life as a mermaid. Maya's parents catch on to her new discovery and decide to tell her in episode 3, Shiny Things, that they need to talk about her mermaid ancestors from Sylt, Germany.
