Who is the person and artist behind the Vincent van Gogh phenomenon? Jeroen Krabbé - himself an artist and a big Van Gogh fan - travels through places where Vincent lived and worked to get as close to him as possible. Jeroen visits the institution in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence where Van Gogh was admitted after a psychological crisis. Here he meets neurologist Piet Voskuil who made a surprising discovery regarding Vincent's disease. During this period of confusion, disappointment and loneliness, Van Gogh made a self-portrait that is now the source of inspiration for a self-portrait made by guest artist Chris Berens.
