The Robshaws return for the second decade of the 20th century. They still have Debbie, their 'maid of all works' who does all the cooking and cleaning, but times are changing. The decade starts brightly for the family but servants like Debbie will soon get better work opportunities and the Robshaws will need to ease up on her onerous household chores if they want her to stay on. War is on the way and with the men away fighting, job opportunities open up for women in factories and railways. Debbie decides to hand in her notice and devote her time to the war effort, which means that Robshaws will now have to fend for themselves.
