Rain falls on the windshield and the wipers sweep it away rhythmically: we pass by a cityscape, flat and endless. A woman s voice talks about building her own house. In this film essay, road trips through Mexico City weave together stories of autonomous home building, planned and unplanned urban development, and the politics of property rights. Both the people and the city tell of the continuous process of self-building as a form of self-assertion and a strategy for survival. C.C visited Mexico City several times between 2009 and 2011. With a camera and a small crew she examined the phenomenon of informal city development, informal urban ism and urbanization in Mexico City.
