Dr Mopp goes to the Chigley Pottery to buy a vase for his sister. Lord Belborough arrives on his steam engine Bessie to take a crate of pottery to Treddles Wharf where he collects a mysterious crate. What could it contain?

Chimney sweep Roger Varley comes to Winkstead Hall to help clean Bessie the steam engine and Binnie the pumping engine. But the hall has run out of coal so they have to go in Bessie to Treddles Wharf to pick up a load of coal.
